Top 10 Blogs Thriving on Pinterest Traffic and Ad Revenue in 2024
Are you looking for inspiration from blogs that are already getting massive amounts of Pinterest traffic and generating good revenue from it?
Google has been the main source of traffic for blogs for the last two decades. However, with the recent Helpful Content Updates (HCU) in 2023 and 2024, it has become difficult to get traffic from Google like before. This has left many bloggers who rely entirely on Google traffic struggling to generate decent revenue from ads.
However, some were smart enough to use Pinterest to diversify their traffic sources. In fact, these blogs receive so much traffic from Pinterest that the ad revenue from this traffic alone is sufficient to generate a satisfactory income, in addition to their other sources of income.
We have been managing many Pinterest accounts for various blogs across different topics and industries and have also researched their competitors. Based on our experience and research, we have created a list of 10 blogs that are not just surviving but thriving on Pinterest traffic and ad revenue in 2024 (some of these Pinterest accounts are managed by us!).
How We Picked the Top 10 Blogs Leveraging Pinterest: Our Methodology
The best way to get accurate data from Pinterest is through Pinterest’s own analytics and Google Analytics. But when it comes to competitors, don’t expect them to hand over their ‘pin-telligence,’ right?
So, we utilized our extensive experience in managing Pinterest accounts to create the list and used a thorough and systematic approach combining manual research, software tools, and data corrections for accuracy.
Here’s how we did it:
Manual Research
We used the Pinterest Trends tool to identify trending keywords across various topics and industries. The results were filtered by top yearly trends with an end date up to 13th May 2024.
From the filtered keywords, we selected 10 keywords that are suitable for blogs, trends are stable throughout the year and are in different niches. Then each keyword was opened in a new tab.
At the bottom of each of the pages, there is a popular pin section. Clicking on this section revealed the top-performing pins for the keywords.
We opened the top 30 performing pins for each keyword to check the followers and brand name of each account.
Short Listing Pinterest Accounts
Although follower count isn’t that important on Pinterest, we only visited the home pages of accounts with over 15k followers to ensure those accounts are popular and well-established.
Next, we selected 2–4 accounts for each keyword with 10 million+ monthly views and noted their associated blog URLs. In total, we collected 32 blog URLs to check the traffic data.
We entered the URLs into SimilarWeb’s website search bar and used the social overview tool to estimate the traffic each blog receives from Pinterest.
Traffic Estimation and Adjustment
SimilarWeb only provides estimates for desktop traffic. To refine this data, we compared it with GA4 data from multiple Pinterest accounts we manage.
Take a look at the GA4 data of this blog that’s Pinterest account is managed by us. It got 94,460 sessions from Pinterest in January 2024.
Now let’s see what SimilarWeb shows for social traffic visits to the same blog in the same time frame.
So according to this data from SimilarWeb, the blog received 8,838 visits (92.06% of 9600) from Pinterest users using desktop computers in January 2024.
But from GA4 analytics data, we can see that the actual sessions from Pinterest were 94,460, which is 10.7 times higher.
We compared data over 2-3 months and found that the actual traffic multiplier remained between 10-14 times higher than SimilarWeb’s desktop estimates. Depending on the niche, the total traffic can be 8-15 times higher than what SimilarWeb reports for desktop traffic.
This difference is expected because more than 91% of Pinterest searches (according to Pinterest audience overview) are from iPhone, Android, and mobile web. Therefore, the overall traffic this website is getting is much higher.
Final Selection
Based on our analysis and to keep it simple, we applied a general multiplier of 10.5 to SimilarWeb’s desktop traffic estimates to approximate the total Pinterest traffic for all blogs.
So, if SimilarWeb showed 8,838 visits from Pinterest (desktop only), we multiplied this number by 10.5 to estimate the total Pinterest traffic, resulting in 92,799 visits.
Estimated Revenue Data
The revenue generated from Pinterest traffic is calculated using our available data on Q1 average Pinterest RPMs from Mediavine or Raptive for tier-one countries in that niche.
The total revenue is calculated by multiplying the average RPM of similar niches by the total traffic and then dividing by 1,000.
We ranked the top 10 blogs according to their approximate total revenue earned from Pinterest traffic.
